False Bottom Screens

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Advanced False-Bottom Wedge Wire Screens for Breweries & Food Industries

Engineered for superior filtration, faster lautering, and world-class hygiene — built with Apollo’s large-format manufacturing technology up to 14,000 mm diameter.

Apollo False-Bottom Wedge Wire Screens are precision-engineered lauter tun and mash tun filtration floors made from premium stainless steel.
Compared to perforated plates, Apollo’s V-wire profile delivers:

  • Faster wort drainage
  • Minimal husk carry-over
  • High clarity and stable flow
  • Zero clogging due to self-cleaning slot geometry

Typical slot size: 0.5–1.0 mm, depending on grist type.

Comparison: Wedge Wire Screen False Bottom vs. Slotted (Perforated) False Bottom

Parameter Apollo Wedge Wire Screen False Bottom Slotted / Perforated Plate False Bottom
Filtration Quality ✔ Very high clarity; continuous V-wire slot gives cleaner wort with minimal husk carry-over ✖ Lower clarity; larger slot edges allow husk and fine solids to pass
Flow Rate / Drainage Speed ✔ Faster lautering due to higher effective open area & uniform slots ✖ Slower; open area is limited and non-uniform
Clogging / Blinding ✔ Non-clogging V-wire geometry; self-cleaning action ✖ Slots clog easily; blinding increases lautering time
Slot Accuracy & Stability ✔ CNC-welded slots remain stable over years ✖ Slots deform, widen with time, affecting run-off quality
Strength & Structural Integrity ✔ Heavy-duty resistance-welded structure; handles large grain loads and rake pressure ✖ Weaker; flat perforated plates bend under load, causing uneven bed support
Hygiene & Cleanability ✔ Smooth wedge wire surface; easy to CIP/SIP ✖ More crevices; difficult to clean and sanitize fully
Lifetime / Durability ✔ Very long service life (5–10+ years) ✖ Shorter life due to cracking, deformation, and corrosion
Open Area % ✔ High; continuous narrow slots maximize flow ✖ Limited by hole/slot punching process
Pressure Drop ✔ Lower ΔP due to tapered slot geometry ✖ Higher ΔP; turbulent flow through punched slots
Build Options ✔ Custom diameter up to 14,000 mm; panels or one-piece discs ✖ Limited sizes; not suitable for mega-brewhouse diameters
Maintenance Requirements ✔ Minimal ✖ Frequent cleaning and higher downtime
Consistency of Lautering ✔ Uniform bed formation; smoother lautering cycles ✖ Bed becomes uneven due to plate deformation
Food-Grade Surface Finish ✔ Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, ASTM A967 passivated ✖ Basic industrial finish; rougher surface
Cost-to-Performance Ratio ✔ Higher initial cost, but much lower lifetime cost ✖ Cheaper to buy, expensive to maintain and replace
